Reasons and justifications
Audience A:
The first social media platform we chose for kids is TikTok. We chose it because it is a trending platform that every kid is on, especially in the age range 10-14. Tik Tok is known to be the number 1 social platform for GenZ and GenAlpha, they spend hours watching and sharing content. Over 60% of TikTok users are under 24, and many pre-teens use it with parental supervision. TikTok is the best place to meet them because the platform shows short, trendy videos. The platform thrives on fun, fast-paced videos—perfect for showcasing slam dunks, team dances, behind-the-scenes clips, and tournament challenges.
Another platform we chose for the kids is YouTube. Even though short form videos are more popular now, many kids still use it as their main source of content. Some parents are more likely to trust YouTube as a safer platform for their kids. This will be perfect for gaming highlights, interviews and style videos with young athletes or even guest appearances (like Derrick Coleman).
Audience B:
The platforms that we chose for audience B ( Parents) are Facebook, Instagram and X.
We chose Facebook because it is one of the most popular platforms used by parents. Facebook has the highest number of adult users, especially in the age group 30-45. This audience corresponds with “30% of the users on Facebook. Research shows that 68% of adults in the USA use Facebook regularly”. Another reason why Facebook would be a good platform to reach the parents is because many parents follow their kids' school, sports team and local community events for information to see if they can find any opportunity for their kids and even stay updated with what's happening in the community. And lastly, Facebook has a lot of built-in tools that we can use, like we can create an event page where the parents can stay informed and engaged with the event.
Instagram was another social media we chose for them because parents are drawn to photos and videos of their kids in action. This event is the perfect place to showcase the tournament’s atmosphere and showcase past highlights and promote visually appealing content. We can also use instagram as a place to grow parent target audience especially the moms who use the platform for lifestyles and local events. We can also make use of features like the Reels and Stories. They are good for countdowns, sponsor shoutouts (like Whirlpool), or clips of Derrick Coleman to build hype in an easy-to-consume format.
The last platform we chose for parents is X. X is perfect for real-time updates. It is great for quick reminders and fast communication like for example, if the tournament is rescheduled, we will be able to connect to the parents faster and directly. Parents can use this account to follow school boards and local sports programs to stay current. So by using hashtags and tagging schools or local organizations can help boost visibility and spread awareness about the event. Tweets are public and searchable, so using relevant hashtags that relate to the event and tagging local schools or community leaders can extend our reach fast.
