Part B – Question 3
  1. As discussed in class, why do you feel Headlines are so important in web content? Please provide me with an example of a headline you clicked on recently (submit the exact headline including a screenshot) and outline in detail why you clicked it. In question #1, I asked why it resonated with you. For this question, I am asking why you actually clicked on it. This cannot be the same headline as question #1 (8 Marks)

Headlines are important for web content because the title tags are one of the first things readers see on search engines. It gives them an idea of what the article may be about, which will determine whether or not they choose to click on it or not. Make sure they contain keywords regarding the article topic and strong words to evoke emotion to help readers feel like they can resonate with what the headline says.

Headline – “Is Your Bacon Safe to Eat? Here Are Tips for Storing the Food Safely, Plus 4 Signs It’s Time to Throw It Out”

I clicked on this headline because it grabbed my attention for the reasons that I love bacon, but I also work with bacon and cook it for others, so this headline stood out to me when I came across it. The title tag is “Is Your Bacon Safe to Eat? 4 Signs It’s Time to Throw It Out.” This was written in a way that has elements of a good headline, which made me want to click on it even more.

This headline starts with a closed-ended question, asking readers if their bacon is safe to eat. This will encourage them to think yes or no and make them curious about the subject. It also includes a number 4 in the headline, telling me that I will get four different reasons and ways to know when I should throw out bacon. The number 4 is specific, which can draw the attention of more people as well. The headline is also written in a way that states a problem and then offers a solution to readers. The problem people may have of not knowing if their bacon is safe to eat, then following it up by saying, “Here Are Tips for Storing the Food Safely,” which implies that the article will give the reader a solution for how they can fix their problem or questionable thought.

I think since this headline started by asking a closed-ended question and addressing a possible problem I thought about, it is what made me want to click and sparked some curiosity within me. I am the type of person who is very picky about what I eat, especially when it comes to meat. I won’t eat it if it's not cooked to my liking, nor would I want to eat it if it could be bad. This headline made me want to learn more about what to look out for since I am so particular with that type of stuff. The headline tells me that it will give me four ways to know when it's time to throw away the bacon and ways to store it properly this way, I can use this information when I'm at work but also at home; it is nice to know about in case a situation occurs, and I need to relay this message to my parents. These are all reasons and factors as to why I clicked on this headline.
